Elder Trezise and Elder Manu

All ready to venture out

Elder Trezise and Elder Manu

These past few weeks have been incredibly hard for Elder Trezise.  He finally told me that he is really struggling with his companion.  He was able to meet with the mission counselor and asked his mission president if he could be released as AP.  He refused to tell his mission president of the struggles he is having with his companion.  I sent the mission president a short email explaining that he needed to talk to Elder Trezise.  Well...the mission president called me and we had a conversation.  I'm worried Elder Trezise is going to be upset that I spoke with the president.  I look forward to talking to him tomorrow.  Here is his letter from Monday:

Hi family!
As you know from talking to me, this week has been a really hard one. Honestly, probably the hardest of my mission. It was rough watching Elder Manu go home. But I don't want to dwell on sad things.

So, in other news, I have had a good week as far as studying goes. I learned a ton. I was able to listen to a few talks that I really love, most by Elder Holland. But one was a devotional given by Elder Ucthdorf, that I'm sure I've quoted to y'all before. It's called, "Can You Hear the Music?" In this talk he explains a social experiment that was done in a New York subway station. They had a world famous Violinist, using a multi-million dollar violin, go down into the subway in the middle of the day, and play world-class violin music. The people working at the station, aware of the experiment were terrified it would cause a traffic control nightmare. But I'm sure you can guess what happened. The man played for hours, and out of the thousands of people that passed by, only a handful stopped, even just for a minute to take in the music.

Elder Ucthdorf explains that we are in a world of instant access. If we want something, we can order it online, or go to a store to get it, almost immediately. If we want to talk with someone, we can do that, within seconds, regardless of where in the world we are at. And because of the world we live in, too many of us gain a mentality of, "If I want answers, I am entitled to them now." But that is not the mindset Heavenly Father wants us to have. He teaches us in the scriptures to have patience. To wait. To pray, and to listen. And He has promised to answer our prayers if we are patient. In this talk, Elder Ucthdorf says, "Casual prayers do not yeild sublime answers." We cannot halfheartedly turn to God, expecting a full-hearted answer. We need to put effort into everything we do for the Lord. Including our prayers to Him.

Elder Holland says something along the lines of, "The Lord is ANXIOUSLY waiting to answer your prayers and fulfill your dreams. But... He can't, if you don't PRAY. And if you don't DREAM." The Lord wants to help us. He wants to help YOU. But He can't. If you don't pray. and if you don't dream. Pour out your heart, and your soul to your Heavenly Father. And wait. Listen. Give it a while. Take a step back and look for answers yourself. The Lord loves effort. You'll find when you take a step back and look that many of the questions and concerns you had have already been answered.
I plead with you to plead with the Lord. He loves each of us so much, and wants us to be happy more than anything in the whole world. He wants to answer your questions. He wants to give you peace. But you need to put in the effort yourself. I love each of you. And I miss you all so much. I pray for you daily. Keep pushing through!
