Elder Trezise and Elder Nelson (who came back to visit)

Elder Trezise and his companion Elder Lukenga

I'm doing really good! This week has been awesome! We had a zone council this Wednesday, which is where our whole zone got together to discuss what struggles are going on, and council together on how we can best overcome those struggles. We talked about how we don't have anybody on date to be baptized in our area. We ended up putting someone on date later that day, and it was awesome. He talked to us about how he wants to make changes in his life and he feels good whenever he goes to church. It was awesome.

Anyway, I don't have a ton of time, so I figured I'd send you this email and you can forward it on to the rest of the family. I have been reading and praying a lot this week for guidance. I have to give a training in the upcoming zone conference in front of 80 or so missionaries, and then another training in front of another 20. So my mind has been wandering a lot, thinking about what to train on and how to deliver the message. I was leaning towards a certain topic, and then after my conversation with mom today, she talked about a talk she read by Lynn G. Robbins. It reminded me of a talk I have read by him, called "Be 100% Responsible." This is the topic I have been leaning towards. There are many missionaries I know that will blame others for lack of success. They will say, "Well the members aren't doing this, or that, or this." Or they will say, "Well the last missionaries here didn't do a good enough job at this, or that." Yes, the last missionaries should have done a better job. Yes, the members should be accelerating the work. Yes. But there's a quote I have read that I love.
"If you see the work, it's yours."

We don't have time to sit around and complain. If the Savior had been in the Garden, and looked at the sins of the world and said, "Well the people should have lived better lives, so I'm not gonna do it." Then none of us would be able to make it back to God. If He had complained, saying, "These aren't my sins, why should I pay for them?" Then where would we be? It doesn't matter if it is your fault or not. It doesn't matter if you did everything right and have to pay for it. We are supposed to follow the example of Christ in all things. We constantly look to Him. We sing songs like, "I'm trying to be like Jesus." Is the song secretly, "I'm trying to be like Jesus, except when it's hard?" No. We should constantly strive to be like the Savior, ESPECIALLY when it's hard. Especially when there are those around us who have wronged us, when there are things others have done that have hurt us. Forgive and forget. "I the Lord will forgive whom I will forgive, but of you it is required to forgive all men."

The message I'm going to share with them is the message I'm sharing with you now. Be 100% responsible. Not 99%. Don't take responsibility only for the things that you think you did. Read the talk. Understand that whether something was your fault or not, responsibility is a principle of heaven, and is required of each of us. Don't let yourself fall into the trap of pointing fingers at others.

I love each of you, I'm sorry I didn't have the chance to write a longer email. Hope y'all have a great week!
-Elder Trezise
