Elder Trezise's letter for the week:

Yeah, next year transfers will probably be before Christmas, meaning it'll probably be fine to send them to the mission office. But I'll let you know as it gets sooner. It was so cool to see all you guys on Christmas though. It made my day so great. I mainly just spent Christmas at home hanging with the Carvajals, playing SkipBo and 5 crowns. And we got to watch Emperor's New Grove which was super fun!
Tell Nana and Papa I said thank you so much and I love them a ton! Of course they got them a switch with smash bros. That seems about right, haha! That electric scooter looks awesome though! I'm sure they're having a blast on that thing!
And yeah, evan could eat a horse if he felt inclined to. I saw pictures of you guys at the cabin which was really cool! Do you love the snow? It has been snowing a ton here, and I would love it more if I didn't have to drive in it. I still love it, but I hate driving with a passion. Its terrifying.
I think leaving Ollie with Cathy was a good idea. He loves her and loves being there. Remember the time he got out, and they found him sitting in front of her door? I love that dog so much!
That sounds like a good talk! I think the 2 hour church and the new manual will be a way of sifting the wheat and the tares. Those who are faithful will use that extra hour with their family, studying the Gospel. And their faith will increase. Those who aren't as faithful will go home and spend that hour watching the game or something. And their faith will slowly decrease. I know it's a lot to put on you, but you need to be the one holding the family to the Gospel. You need to be persistent, even when everyone doesn't want to do it, to read from that manual as a family and to study as a family. I know you can do it. And I know that the whole family will be blessed as you do.
Your testimony and your strength has been such an inspiration to me. I know you think that you've failed, but you haven't. I have never had more faith and been more happy in my life. And I know that's because of your example to me. Thank you so much mom. And it's never too late for anyone to accept the Gospel. I had a really cool experience about that the other day.
So on Friday we meet with a person we're teaching, and we meet every Friday. But the last few weeks have been hard. So this Friday was the first time in a long time we could meet with him. He's on probation for the next 5 years and can't get baptized yet. He has been to prison, and had a hard life. He has talked to missionaries before, and was an atheist in the past. He said he wasn't sure how it changed for him. He was so certain God wasn't real. But missionaries kept showing up, asking to share messages. Eventually he let them in. After a few lessons he dodged them, and avoided them. He didn't want to change. But he fell in with a friend group who was mainly members of the church. Slowly he began to soften. He let the missionaries back in. He felt the Spirit. He still had doubts and concerns, but he started coming to church. He started reading his scriptures. He is so, so spiritual now. Anyway, on Friday night, when we met with him, he was devastated. He was bawling and hurt. Something extremely bad had happened in his life, and it felt as if his life was spiraling down. I testified to him that Jesus Christ knows what he's feeling. And that he knows that Christ knows how to help. He said he had seen a priesthood blessing before and would like one. I had the chance to give him his first blessing. I know that I didn't say that blessing. It was God speaking through me. I remember saying his full name. I can't remember anything else. As I started to speak we stopped crying. At the conclusion of the blessing we sat in quiet. He told me that was the strongest he has ever felt the Spirit before, and he felt so much peace. He knew it wasn't going to be easy, but with the help of his Savior, he could get through it. Then elder Nelson had the thought to play Peace in Christ on the piano. Elder Nelson and I sang as he played the song. This man sat and listened to the lyrics. "Mend the broken hearts. Dry the tear filled eyes." And, "He gives us hope, when hope is gone. He gives us strength, when we can't go on. He gives us shelter, through the storms of life. When there's no peace on earth, there is peace in Christ." He said that song seemed to speak directly to him. He had never heard it before. This man is just one example of many that no matter what happens in life, Christ can fix it. Christ can heal us. This Gospel can make us happy.
You, and the rest of the family has molded me in to who I am. You have given me the strength to rely upon my Savior, and to trust in His Gospel. I love all of you so much. Have a great new year!
